    Hello legal:

I don't know if you can sue. Go see a lawyer. They won't charge you for the first visit, and if they think you have a case, they won't charge you anything unless you win.

In my humble opinion, however, you don't have a case. You WERE embarrassed, true. But, even if they were negligent in their handling of you, it didn't cost you anything. You have to show a monetary loss before you can collect damages.

Can the store prevent you from shopping there? Yes. It's a private company and they can choose who they do business with, as long as they don't discriminate against protected classes. Suspected shoplifters aren't in a protected class.

You would have to prove a pattern of them searching or banning a certain group of people to be able to show a case.

But what I really think is the issue here is you think you can get a big payday for them embarrassing you. That's not going to happen. You ddin't suffer anything more than some embarrassment. That's not enough to collect damages.

    Hello again, legal:

No, it's not right. But the law doesn't set every wrong back right again. Life isn't fair. That's the way it is.
