    Landlord's negative reference
We have been in our rental in California for two and a half years and want to move. When we told our current landlord, he stated that he already has vacant units, cannot afford for us to leave and does not want us to move. We applied for a new rental and he did not give us a good reference. Can he say anything bad? What can he say in regards to us as tenants?
