How to fight a default judgement?
My mother she lives with me, she is 80 years old her only income is social security checks has no assets and owes about 15k to four different credit companies. She has sever alhzimer disease and other serious health issues. She is not able to handle this situation anymore and eventually I became her power of attorney fot now. She doesn't have money to file for BK or pay creditors. Credit card companies are calling everyday and I'm telling them the truth about her health and finances that she is not able to pay and I know soon this case will go further and they will sue her.
My question I'm her son and I lost my job more than one year ago. My question is? Should I leave this matter behind since she doesn't have any assets on her name and ignore it or what my options are since they are not willing to settle because I'm offering 10 cent on the dollar? Thank you very much for your attention.

You are not responsible for your mother's debts. They can put a judgement against her but as you said she has nothing. It cost money to file bankruptcy. Wait and see what happens before you do anything. My parents are in the same spot as youe mother. A lawyer told us not to do anything until we have to and we need the money to tend to my parents. Sometimes they will try but sometimes forget about it after a while. This is not your debt and if your mom has no money or she needs what she has to pay doctor bills and stuff, let them take her to court. Who cares if it wrecks her credit, like the saying goes Can't get blood out of a turnip. Your mother can take away your POA at anytime. What you really need in guardianship without limitations. That's what I have. We tried to settle with them too but they wanted too much and now the more is almost gone. If they sue her then call a lawyer and a lot of times they will talk to you for free. Or save your money for that. Good luck my parents are 84 and 86 and have the same problems with their mind.
