    FTA warrant questions
I have a FTA warrant issued in Ohio, (driving under suspension). I am unable to pay the bond amount, and am told I will need to turn myself in stay in jail until a court date is set. I am planning on doing this, but would like to know if there is a limit as to how long this can take, I am also on a life support device, and will need to make some sort of arrangements I assume with the county jail.
    Thanks for your help

There is really no time limit, but you can file a motion for a speedy trial once you are in jail.

What sort of life support do you use ? Upon intake they will sceeen you for medical issues. In some cases you will have to be transferred to a medical facility under custody if needed.

I am okay during the day, however I have sever, (and life threatening) apnea, my oxygen lvl will dip below 40 pct while sleeping due to my stopped breathing. I am therefore required to use something called a CPAP machine, which supplies positive airflow during sleeping. I am understanding that I will need to be there until a court date is set, is that incorrect? Will I need to be there until the actual trial?
    Thanks again

Depends on how they handled the driving while suspended, if you at first appearance, plead guilty ( or have a plea agreement arranged)
The FTA warrant is to bring you to court to stand trial on the driving violation, And many times they will give you time served and let you go.

But really they can do many things, and there is no way to be sure what they will or won't do

    Hello JD:

As the Padre mentioned, there will be a medical screening when you are booked. Please don't assume that they'll agree to let you have your life support mechanisim. I know you and your doctor think it's life support, but the jailers might not think so, and they might not allow you to have it.

Therefore, I would absolutely make sure that they understand your medical needs BEFORE you become a resident. The only way you can do that, is to hire a lawyer BEFORE you turn yourself in. In addition to the medical benefit hiring him will provide, he also might be able to help you with your legal problem.

Yes, I agree with excon, what you and your current doctor see as required medical treatment is not the same as what the jails show as your requirement, Each jail has its own security requirements, it is possible to be on such a machine at night, the jail will have to have a medial or hosopial ward and you would have to sleep there under the supervision, many small jails will not have that. Also since you will normally be sharing a cell it is hard to say how safe your equipment would be, a great hiding place for contraband, or use the motors for a tattoo maker.

I worked not the jails, but the prison, high risk wards, for mental health, aids patients and the hospital ward and the suicide watch wards.
And I am sure they were not getting the medical care I would be getting with my PPO insurance. And it will be up to you to explain to "bubba" your 300 lb cell mate why you sound like darth vader at night not letting hm sleep.
