    Enlist Possible??
I was separated from the Navy almost 13 years ago under an OTH RE-4 Code. For not snitching.
However years later I found out my SSN was never actually mine. The SSN/IRS office informed me their was an error at birth and issued me my actual SSN. Now I've maintained a whole other SSN for ever since, and they said my Navy records no longer belong to me because of this error. And never requested to change the records. I was issued a new SSN card.

Question: 1) Can I re-enlist to the Army because my previous enlistment is gone?
    2) Should I just not mention it?
    3) Even if fingerprint matches me could I deny the records based on my SSN?

First matter to settle is the SSN. Having never heard of the SSA issuing a new number based on an 'error at birth,' I am suspicious of a scam, or a family mistake. Even if it's legit, I would go in person to a SS office and sit down to talk about your work history, and get a copy of it. It's called a TPQY - a list of each year you had an income. That's important for the amount you get when you retire.

One year I noticed that my W-2 for a new job showed a SSN that was off by one digit. It was a lot of work to correct it, but I wanted that credit for all the taxes I put into the system!

Then I would go to a recruitment center in person to discuss your options. No one has the right to tell you that your 'Navy records no longer belong to you.' NONE of this makes sense.

You may have a tough time. There are SS horror stories, mostly about people who were declared dead when they weren't. Once mis-information gets out into the world, it never really goes away. Those people have to carry documentation around with them and still have troubles, because documents can be fake, of course.

Deny a fingerprint match? You're kidding, right? You seem remarkably willing to put up with all this just so that you can enlist in a different branch, which won't work any more than denying a fingerprint match. Deal with truth straight on.

The only reason I even stated “dispute the match” was to weed out the dishonest responses.

Unfortunately the SSA couldn’t tell me with a certainty of what occurred with my SSN. They had 100 different scenarios.

Im assuming I’d pass prescreen but when background is complete I’ll be done for. Just had to ask. Thank you for your input.

WOW, that's a mystery! I wouldn't let it go if it were my identity on the line.

Please get that TPQY (Function 28 on INME in TECS) for your quarters of coverage!

Your records are yours, no matter what "number" is used, so if and when they ask, have you ever served.

So this is your military record, you are merely playing words
