Can a person become a CPA if they have a felony conviction on their record?
Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to become a CPA if you have a drug related felony in the state of Virginia that was in 1995?

    Hi, nellybug!

Greetings and WELCOME to the site! I just re-titled and moved your question that you had posted in Introductions to this topic area so that it would get the most exposure to those who are best able to answer it. Introductions is for people to introduce themselves and we try to not ask questions there.

We would appreciate it if you would return to Introductions sometime to tell us a little about yourself though, if you would be willing to do that.

    Thanks!

    Hello nelly:

I'm certain that your state requires you to be free from crimes involving "moral turpitude". That's STEALING. Smoking dope or even selling it, ISN'T stealing. Therefore, I think you can get your CPA designation.

But, they're not just going to give it to you. I'm sure you'll have to fight for it.

You will probably be turned down initially and have to file for a rehearing or personal hearing.

    Then it's anyone's guess.
