    Weird bad smell in house
OK.. I have a smell in my kitchen that smells like you just got a cavity filled at the dentist.I smelled it a little bit last week and only I could smell it.now everyone I asked can smell it.it is very strong and it seems like it is moving through the house... I have never smelled anything like this before... not fishy.. not moldy.. this is entirely different smell.my concern is I have 2 small children ad I don't want them to get anything from this if it is chemical related... anyone please help... who do I call?

    Hi Coda,
Don't think you need to call anyone... Most likely, the smell is coming from the septic system. Every drain in homes has a loop seal that keeps the nasty odors from backing up into our homes. If there is a drain somewhere that you have not used in quite some time, a sink, shower, anything that used to get used and now does not, run some water down the drain to refill the loop seal in the drain line. Not knowing if you're in the country or city, if you're a city dweller, and cannot find a dry drain, you should contact the city officials concerning this. If you're in the country and have a private septic and cannot find a dry drain, you might contact a licensed plumber to help.

    Good luck to you...

Sometimes the trap will 'burp' and sewer gasses can escape, it might be a one time thing, it might be rotted pipes in the drain lines, have you looked under the sink for any wet areas?

Feel around the pipe where it goes through the wall, is there airflow coming through it?

As was suggested before, are there any drains that could have dried up, not get used much?We have 2 such here and when the smell comes,we know what to do,and which ones to address.Believe me, septic fumes aren't pleasant in the cold of winter... :(

When I got a cavity filled it smelled like something burning. Please check your electrical.
Unless you are talking about a rotting smell.
