    Excessive heat in computer room
    Hi all.

My computer room is a small area containing at least nine servers, routers, two computers & printers and all the cablings. I have installed two 7,500 BTU air conditioners in the room and a rain barrel to catch water from the air conditioners. During the daytime hours the computer room is quite cool because office-building air conditioning kicks in. However, this air conditioning is shut off at night hence my purchase of the air conditioners for adequate cooling of that computer room at night. Surely, I would think that the small size of the room coupled with 15,000 BTUs of air pumping into it should more than adequately cool the room. Oh, and there is no exhaust fan running because when I run it the heat builds higher. Now, both air conditioners vent hot air to the substrate ceiling area where the hot air should be dispersed overhead. Yet, each morning when I go into the room the thermostat registers 90 degrees even on cool nights.

Any thoughts about what could be happening in my computer room that causing the heat buildup even in the presence of two air conditioners? Has anyone experienced this problem?

Unless the hot air from the air conditioners is vented outside or the main building air system carries it away, you have a closed system and your A/C units are only recycling hot air.
