    Why are you scared?

The next time your shopping with your mum just ask can you both go look at the trainer bras, let her know you need one.

I bet she will be fine about it.

Do you have an older sister maybe you can talk to?

First talk to your mum, or write her a note.

Sweetie, we've all been there. If you need a bra, then it's time to ask mom. Mom was once a kid too, and she had to shop for her first bra. She'll understand.

Tell her that you think you need a bra. I'm sure that she'll understand. She'll probably even make it a very fun shopping trip, just you and her.

This isn't something to worry about. Really it isn't. It's part of growing up. There are many new things coming up, this is just step one. It's best if you get used to talking to mom about things like this. Mom will understand, she's a girl too. :)

Some things are just weird to talk about and the only way to get over it is to just jump in and do it.

You know that feeling when you really want to go swimming but you know the water will be cold and uncomfortable at first? Once you jump in and swim around a little, it feels great - but first you have to get over the discomfort, right?

It's a real mark of maturity to go to your parent and say, "I'm embarassed to tell you this, Mom, but I think I need to start wearing a bra. Would you please take me shopping?" Be prepared with your reasons for wanting one - whether because some of your shirts are too see-through without it, you feel you need the support, all your friends are wearing them and you are being teased for not having one, or whatever the answer might be, Mom will probably ask since you are just 9 years old.
