I have been married for 15 years to a wonderful man. Our neighbors are cool, but they are lacking in the discipline department with their 20-year-old son. He is allowed to get high in their home, have sex in their home, and make his parents care for the illegitimate offspring he has with drug addicts. This has been going on for years as his oldest kid is now 5. He even beat up his girlfriends in their home. Even though they complain to us about their son, they continue to allow him to disrespect them and their home. Several months ago, I heard that father and son were fighting over a gun that the son was trying to steal in order to go out and shoot someone he had been fighting with. Since then, I have pretty much written them off, but my husband continues to be friendly and accommodating.

A few days ago, the female neighbor, alone with her son's newborn, called my house where my husband answered. He told me that she asked him to come down to her house, that she was crying. He assumed something terrible had occurred. A while later,my husband returned and told me what happened. The son went out around the corner to score drugs. He was seen by police so he ran home. The cops pursued him into the home, cuffed him, and took him to the precinct. The cops were rude to her while they were apprehending her son, and it made her upset and scared when they would not tell her what was going on (as if she had no clue). I got very angry at my neighbor for calling my husband in a fit asking him to come to her--what was he supposed to do for her? Console her because her son is an idiot and it's all her and her husband's fault?

I went down to her house about an hour later, she would not talk to me, as she was on the phone. Later, she called my house telling me what happened. I asked her why she called my husband to come to her, and what exactly did she expect him to be able to do for her at that time? Her response was that she did so in a panic was all. My husband totally does not get why this bothers me so much, and accuses me of feeling like this only because I don't care for her nor her husband. Two days later, she asked my husband was there a problem? He told her to talk to me. She didn't. I called her to discuss, but she cut me off and said she'd call back. Two days have passed and nothing. Should I continue to try and talk about this or let it go?

Let it go!
Comforting them at this point would be of no service. They sound immature and irresponsible.
Distance yourself and be glad she doesn't try contacting you two any more.

Thanks, Captain. Distancing easier for me, not so much for my husband, since he and this female neighbor are on the block committee and often chat about that business.
