    Computer Database Installation / Conversion
    When there is a new database installation or conversion on a specific date, how is the older or earlier data transferred from the old operating system to the new database in order to keep historic information?

    More information would be required to give a complete answer to this question.

    For example, the database used, OS and anything else that might be useful.

    There is no black and white answer to this. First the OS has little to do with it. Transferring to a different OS might mean using a different database because the old one isn't supported under that OS. But that's the only impact of the OS.

    What is done with older info depends on whehter that older info is needed and to what extent. How to convert will depend on what databases are involved.

    Can I beat this dead horse too? The question is so wide open that you could not even narrow the answer down to a single book...

    Is it an old flat file database?. it could even be from an old HP3000 or a VAX. Maybe an old Ashton-Tate DBase database? Remember FoxPro? How about the current stuff like Access, Oracle or SQL Server? Maybe Sybase or SAP?

    OK... What computer questions should I be asking to find out about the previous data base and the conversion to the new operating system? Any type of information would be helpful!

    Well we gave you most of it. What database is the data in now? What will it be converted to? What OS are you using now, what new OS will it be?

    Don't you have network and/or DBAs to handle this?

In a database I have inputed a subform. The subform adds up totals of plants by adding Price*quantity. That is fine, the problem I have is that I want to have a box that adds up all the plants totals to give an overal price. Anyway you can help me? Thanks
