        Porcelain.  White molded body w/clear  glaze.  Standing figure of woman in neo-classical gown holding hatchet in her right hand and two scalps in her left hand.  She is  standing on tapered rectangular pedestal surmounted by gold enamel  platform.  Gown is of burnished brown; arms, shoulders and head are  highlighted with brown flesh tones; hair is red/brown.  The  hatchet head is highlighted with silver enamel; scalps are highlighted  with red. Front of pedestal reads: "HANNAH DUSTON/GRANITE STATE /HEROINE OF 1697".  Silk screened.  Silk screened on back of pedestal: "FIRST WOMAN HONORED/BY  A STATUE IN THE/UNITED STATES  - 1874 /Led massacre & scalping/of ten Indians at Boscawen,/New Hampshire, & escaped/back to  her Haverhill, Mass./family."
