    Wireless connection problems
I can't connect my new lap top. According to the instructions I need to connect the new lap top through the old computer. I have cable internet. I bought a d-link wireless router. Which I connected. The cd that came with the d-link cannot be read by my old computer. It's a 2000 compaq presario. Even trid connecting using the previous connections on my existing computer, can't do it. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I don't understand why you would have to use an existing computer to install a laptop. What if I didn't have an existing computer then what?

First try connecting using one of the wired connections available on your wireless router. It should also have a built in 4-port switch.

Did you have Internet Connection Sharing setup at one time? If you did, then you will have to disable this for your new router to work properly. Your new router will have everything required to replace Internet Connection Sharing.

I agreed the user must be misunderstanding the instructions. He/she should not have to use an existing computer at all.

It would be helpful to have more information on what is happening when you try to connect. Is the wireless turned on on the laptop? Have you followed the instructions that came with the router? If the laptop is new and running Vista or XP it should be a very easy process of following the installation instructions for the router. No other computer needs to be involved.
