    Vista: "Destination folder access denied"
On a Vista, I am logged in as administrator. Yet when I try to copy a file from the file server mapped as drive under "Computer' to my desktop or any folder on local drive, I get the following error:

    "Destination folder access denied"

You need permission to perform this action

Followed instructions on these links to no avail:

Review the answer to the post for Networking 2 Computers - https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/networ...rs-275395.html.

This pertains to the problem you are having. File ownership is not the problem. File access across shared resources is the problem and this is performed via Share Permissions and File/Folder Security.

Have you added the user for one computer to the user group permissions to the other?

    For example:
    Computer ONE, user Administrator
    Computer TWO, user Administrator

Go to computer ONE and add TWO\Administrator to the Administrators group.
Go to computer TWO and add ONE\Administrator to the Administrators group.

This way, the user on the other machine will inherit the permissions of the user group Administrators.

In my case it is not two computers.

I have an online file storage software that is mapped as a drive under "Computer" in a vista.

I cannot save files on that file server as I get this permission denied access.

Any help would be highly appeciated?

Online file storage as in remote Internet based file storage or is it a Network Attached Storage box?

If it is Internet based, how are you accessing it? Is it by FTP? Check your credentials and make sure they are correct.

If it is a NAS box, you will need to remotely manage the NAS box (usually with your browser and IP address of the NAS or with an RDP session) and take a look at the shares and permissions.

Don't use the shortcut to the remote file, use the IP address.

It is internet based remote file storage accessed through Webdav.

An IP address cannot be obtained for this.

Go to a command prompt and type NSLOOKUP.

Then type the name of the file storage source you are using. An IP address will be returned to you.

Then type EXIT to return to the command prompt and then PING the IP address to verify connectivity.

They do not allow IP address lookup.
