If this is a true NAS device then the operating system installed is the "Windows Powered" utility operating system. They are not upgradeable to a different OS. NAS devices are considered expendable hardware. You can not install very many additional services on them beyond a basic server. For example, they can not become an Exchange Server, SQL Server or an application server. And without a "Full OS" installation, they can not become a Domain Controller, DNS, WINS or DHCP server.

From what I see on HP's web site, this is not a Network Attached Storage device. A typical NAS device comes as a self contained unit with enough of an operating system to allow for network connectivity and file sharing. Some are Windows powered units and some are Linux powered units.

The MSA1000 is a disk array that can be used as a Fiber Channel Direct Attached Storage or when connected to switches, can be used as a Storage Area Network (SAN). In either case, the servers are a separate component. I am assumining from your recovery DVD that you currently have a Windows 2000 operating system on a server that you wish to upgrade. To do so, you will need to purchase a server upgrade from a Microsoft reseller.
