I usually got a problem with my computer so I will recently talk (ask and answer) about it...

I have two computer in my house, one is desktop and the other one is my laptop.
I try to connect both of them using an adsl2 gateway with 4 switch.

In my desktop, I have created the workgroup that consist with my desktop.

In my laptop, I also created a new workgroup that consist with my laptop.

when I try to access my laptop using my desktop the error message comes in:

" \\Tlaptop is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission.

Logon Failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer"

This message didn't appear if I try to access the desktop using my laptop.
    And that's make very frustration...

so if there is an answer for this question, I would be very happy and thankfull for the help.

Hum... so the separated workgroup can be the problem?
But how to put those two (my desktop and laptop) into on workgroup?

The version in laptop is windows home edition SP1
The version in desktop is windows professional edition SP2

Does the difference can also create the problem?

And I don't even know how to create the user ID in both of my comps... T.T

To put both on the same workgroup, use the same workgroup name. Try to connect with this first.

On the laptop, you need to add a new user. This user should be the same as the user that logs into the Desktop. You can setup users using the "User Accounts" in control panel.

To change the computer name, to join a domain, or to add a computer description for a Windows XP-based computer, use the Computer Name tab in the System Properties dialog box. To locate this tab:

•Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

Which error message? Or Both still appear?

Do you have something to share on the both computers? (i.e. shared directory or folder).

Try sharing with simple folder sharing enabled. Open My computer. Go to Tools, Folder options, under the View tab, scroll the advanced settings to the bottom and check the box. See if that works.

This is not an different workgroup issue. If your have set password for laptop user then u must set password for desktop user too. I am talking about login password. Either keep passwod on both system or don't keep any password leave it blank.

Google the term "tcp/ip stack corrupt". Make sure the same user exist on both PCs
