?? OK this is my problem
I'm running windows xp on 2 computers and windows nt 4.0 on 1. My problem is I can see my PC from my daughters but not hers from mine? Also I can't access any files from hers to mine either.

My setup is 2 pcs with winxp running direct to the router then routed to a hub in my basement to nt 4.0 server(not using as a DHCP) router is. Checked my settings over and over, reset the router, ran network config several times.I finnally could see my PC from hers but not vice vers.
Enabled netbui also, still nothing.? Please tell me what I'm doing wrong, oh I have no problem getting on the internet on all.?

Keep Administrator password same on all three machines and then see if it works.

If yes, let me know so as to sugget the exact solution.

I'm going to try the admin pss to see if that works I'll let u know.I didn't have this problem with NT or 98?? I may have to force an IP but I don't want to do that. Also I'll have to recheck my router for changes. If u have any other ideas they are are welcome

gamer, hi, if you are still having that same network problem, may I offer any small suggestion. 1st, please let me clarify something: when you first said: "nt 4.0 server(not using as a DHCP) router is", did you mean your PC (not your daughters) is nt 4.0 server? Are you having prob with the nt , not seeing your daughters win xps pcs? Am I correct to assume that? If that is the case, and you have set up all pcs with the same workgroup name and with files & printing enabled, & assuming you are using cat 5 cables on all of the pcs, then you have to enable all the pcs' tcp/ip settings as "assign ip automatically" and reboot. If u still can't see any of your daughters' pcs, then try this: turn off and unplug everything in this order for 5 minutes--isp modem, router, hub or switch, and then all pcs. Then, after 5 minutes. plug in all of those devices in the same order. If the "turning of" method, still don't work, what I will suggest next is more complicated. Please post here if it works. Thanks. It has work for me every time.

Ok I know what your talking about when you refresh or reset the router, and clear memory. My problem is now, well I did get my PC to finally see hers but now it doesn't? Also hers to mine but know it doesn't? Here is the kicker I can print from her machine on the printer connected to mine. I took off the NT 4.0 server from the network so I can get these 2 to see each other first. Now My setup goes as follows; Modem(cable) to Router tow PC's Connected to router. Yes cat5 cables, ethernet RJ45's. Lynksys router is the brand. Both machines are running xp pro. I had it working when hers was win98se and mine winxp, but when I switched all went to hell, I've done so much with trouble shooting, user rights, policies, admin so-on, I can see both in network properties but keep getting an admin error trying to get from hers to mine, I know I set user rights, gave myself all rights, also now it wants a password from my machine to hers? I'm starting to think it is something wrong with my router. I turned off all firewalls I was running on both pc's to see if that was it. I t wasn't.I f you have any suggestions I'm all ears. :o

gamer, hi, sounds like you try just about everything here. Yet, I see your network still got several issues. First thing's first. Now, I suggest unplugging the printer and the hub. Actually with a minimum of a 4-port router, there is no need for a hub. 4-port is good enough for 2 win xp pcs, your nt server PC, and your printer. I recommend replacing the hub with a switch if you need to expand your network with more ports, cause switches are just more efficient. For the printer, you got to get a print server that has its own cable and port connected to the router. A good, inexpensive print server is from HAWKING TECHNOLOGY; HP's is just too damn expensive. It will be less confusing for the router. By the way, could you please tell me what LINKSYS router model you have, if the router is the culprit? I'll check to see what problems it might have. Now of course, you have DSL or cable modem right? And I'm assuming you are on a private network, too, right? Otherwise, if you want to go with domains, I'm sure you know things will get very complicated. So, the only other thing that I see is you might have installed IIS4 when you were installing nt 4 server. That may explain why your PC keeps asking you for a password, unless you didn't installed sp6 on nt server and service pack 1 on win xps, did you? Oh, gamer, 1 last thing if I may. This will sound obvious, but please check your NIC card on each PC. NIC card sometimes work better if it is 1 slot apart from the sound card. By the way, you don't need NETBEUI or NETBIOS enabled, cause the router and tcp/ip will do a much better job, unless you want to play around with LMHOST files, master broswers, and stuff like that. ;)

Linksys BEFSR41/BEFSR11/BEFSRU31, is the router,I'm using a workgroup not a domain on winxp pc's, I'm going to use domain and workgroup when I get the server back on line. I can print from my daughters machine but can't share files? Keeps asking for a password, from hers I can't even get that far keeps giving me(blank is not accesible you might not have rights to access contact administrator) I could see hers and share files when I first set it up when I started the next day problems? Router is 4 port. Should have got one with a printer port. I don't have this problem setting up nt for shares, walk in the park, I think I'm over looking something simple or I missed something not clicking.I'M A TECH MYSELF AND THIS IS REALLY EMBARRASSING?? I'm going to go over the setup again step by step to see what I missed, If you have any other Ideas I'm all ears, Again THX for help :)
