I want to become a singer!
OK I am new to this site and I have read a few messages from people that also have the same dream as me and that is to become a singer. But the thing is everything I have read from other people's messages is what I would write too, I have been singing since I was a little girl with my Grandad but only sang in front of my Family etc and lately from the help of my Friends and Music Teacher at my school they put me in singing lessons to boost my confidence and I have now sung three times in front of my whole school, and the feeling I got from them applauding me was out of this world, Im trying soooooooooo hard not to sound cheesy but I just wish I could feel that again! I have left school now and I have just finished my GCSE's and before I go on to college I decided to get a job because after all I am a young adult now and I have watched the programme and been dreaming of being one the "X-FACTOR" contestants. I know it may sound stupid but I feel as though that WAS my only chance of ever making it and I say WAS because when I checked to see the date of the last audition I read I had missed it because the last OPEN auditions were on June 9th! Im worried because I have no idea of what other chances I will or ever have! Someone please write back and help me love Faye xx:confused: :o

I am going to answer based on the assumption that you want to make singing your career or, at least part of your career.

Don't ever give up your hope and dream of becoming a singer. It would help to know what type or types of music you would like to sing. If you limit yourself to only one or two types, then that will lesson your chances of making singing a career. But, to make a career out of being a musician of any kind is really tough. For one thing, the competition is big in the localities where musicians can actually make a living performing music. If you eventually wind up living in a smaller area, you might be able to make some money performing occasionally for a nightclub or other places.

Another thing that is important in becoming a singer is to be able to play at least a little on the piano. It is helpful to be able to play at least a little piano to know also about some music fundamentals and also to be able to plunk out the notes for yourself that you might be having to sing without having someone else do it for you.

I can keep going on with my answer. But again, it really would help to know what type or types of music you would like to sing. Also, whether you would like to make singing your sole career or part of your career.

You see, part of what I do is I am a professional musician. I play various instruments and I also sing.

There are so many types of singing that people could choose from - nightclub singing, stage singing (musical theater), church type singing (services, weddings and funerals), opera singing. Other music types: rock, jazz, dance, country, big band, etc.

There are also some answers on the following link that may be of help to you.

You put in your time and dues. Don't know the type of music, rap, county, but each type of music has some speical things to get you started.

For example, this weekend in Nashville there is a large gathering of song writers, there are many stages and performers all day for Fri through Sunday, You learn these by doing open mike nights, and by checking out dozens of music boards online.

In almost every area there are open mike nights, and small groups, that pay local music people to perform. You just have to find them.
Next you travel, my wife for example this week, did a open mike night about 6 hour drive away that was broadcast live on the radio. two days latter she did a local performance for a church conference meeting, and for the next three days she is at the music event in nashville I mentioned.
So out of 7 days she is performing 5 of them, and on the road away from home 4 of them.

If your singing is proper for senior citizen centers, or nursing homes, you can perform at dozens of them in your local area.

You have made a good and valid point in your answer here! :) If you keep writing things like this, just maybe someone might be moved enough to remove the avatar that you currently have so that you could put a different one there, if you choose. But, time and what you post will tell...

Wondergirl agrees: You SING too?? OMG!!
Sure I do! Mostly for church stuff. Occasionally for gigs. Currently, I sing with the Rock Island Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, or SPEBSQSA, Inc.
