AVI's are movies and can be opened in almost any video/media player. Windows Media Player will open them, so will Winamp and many more. Anyway, your PC should have a default application set for AVI's. Just try double clicking on the file.

If none of these let you open the AVI, it's possible the AVI is incomplete. If that's the case, try this program: http://www.avipreview.com . That lets you view incomplete AVI's.

If that doesn't work then I doubt the file is an AVI file.

It is possible that your file is actually a DivX file (they also have .avi extensions) and you need a player to view it. Get one here: http://www.divx.com/divx/play/download/

Oooo. Good point Karma. It could be a codec issue. I believe XviD also are AVI files. Might be worth getting this below codec pack - it covers DivX too. Just go for the basic one, you won't need anything else.
