1950's or 1960's spy movie
Early in movie a boy watches from the shore as his father is dragged behind a boat by a rope tied around his neck. The bad guys are in the boat trying to get information from the father. The drag him then stop and pull his head up to ask him questions. He refuses to answer. They pull him some more. Finally boy watches his father drown. That's all I remember for sure. I recall there may have been a note book as well and the boy may have had information or knew where the note book was.

I forgot the title of this movie. It was from the 1950's or 1960's. Its about a woman performer who's husband dies in the war, so to comfort her, her mother gives her a drink, she starts drinking alcohol everyday and becomes an alcoholic. She marries many men then overcomes her addiction in the end.
