    Monitor not powering on
I have an 2 year old (just out of warranty of course!) HP vs17d that isn't getting any power.

I tried changing the power cord and using a different plug but it still wouldn't power up. I plugged a functioning monitor into the computer using the same cord and plug and it worked fine, so I know it has something to do with the monitor.

Does anyone have any ideas of how I can fix this monitor?

    Thanks,
    Adam

Are you using the original power cord you received with this monitor?

I tried using the original power cord and other power cords that I had laying around.

When I set up the a working monitor, I used the same power cord and the monitor started up right away.

This is obviously a power problem. I looked at the HP documents concerning this and could come up with nothing. Maybe you can. Check out:

A friend and I have the same series HP monitors and he has repaired his by replacing some bulging capacitors in the power supply, got them at Radio Shack. I will be trying that on mine. Note: The top of the capacitors, where the X mark is, should be flat. If they have any bulge they are failed or will soon fail. Be advised that some boards are fabricated with no-lead solder, the melting point is much higher than regular solder.
