My husband is a healthy normal guy 95% of the time, however sometimes for reasons unknow he starts to drink alcohol and does not stop for days. He will drink at least three bottles of wine a day. He does not eat whilst he self destructs and the episodes last up to 1 week. He does not communicate with anyone and its likes he's a different person.
These episodes do not happen more than twice a year but when they do it, our family life is effected badly.
He will not come out the other side until he is ready and then he is distraught that he has put everyone through all the hurt he causes.
He is not physically violent but can become a little verbally aggressive if I challenge him whilst he is still very drunk.
Does he have some kind of depression, mental disorder??
We would both like to know what triggers this and how we can put an end to these.
He can go without alcohol for long period of times without any difficulty.
Please help

This is a little strange, in the sense I do pretty much what your husband does. Everyone is different, but the reason I do this is, when I am depressed and feeling suicidal. And I can't speak to my wife about my problems.

I think you should talk to him, ask him if it is OK for you to talk to him, sometimes it's a good idea to give some time advance - the best time would be during the night or early in the morning.

He's a classic binge alcoholic. He needs professional help.

I agree that he binge drinks. That is a problem. It could be an alcohol problem, but if it is triggered by something such as depression or anxiety, that would not be uncommon. He does need professional help to guide him in understanding his addiction/unhealthy behaviors. He could keep a journal daily including his feelings and details about what is going on, and see a pattern of his drinking. But in order to stop, professional help sounds necessary!

He definitely sounds alcoholic yes. Needs to see it as a problem himself and get help. AA would be perfect for him.
