My excuse is people bite their nails and I pull my hair!! Now my sister who I went to visit in Florida I saw her pulling her hair and Now I know how it feels to see someone special and with a bold spot at the age of 21 I myself I'm 27 with a bold spot as well. Iwant to stop but I can't. I don't want to go bold and look ugly :(

I have a sister that pulls her hair as well. She's done it since she was a teenage. She is 47 years old and has to wear a wig. As a family we don't talk about it. We all act as if nothing is wrong. She won't go to a doctor because she is to embarrassed. I want to help but I don't know what to say.

What you are experiencing, trichotillomania, is an impulse control disorder. Believe it or not, almost 2.5 million people in the United States have this disorder. The onset for this illness is around 12 or 13 years of age and is the common result of anxiety, stress, anger, pressure, or any unexpressed emotion. Trichotillomania does not only involve hair pulling from just the scalp; other areas that might be pulled from are the eyebrows, eyelashes, arm, legs, and pubic hairs.

I have had this disorder for over 4 years now and am now finally exploring treatment. To facilitate my hair growth, I have begun using Woman's Rogaine. I will soon visit a psychologist, but in the mean time I have been looking at websites such as Trichotillomania - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, End trichotillomania and stop hair pulling - 123 Trichotillomania Free, and WebMD - Better information. Better health..

Personally, I have just bought the e-book, "What's Wrong With Pulling My Hair Out?" by the author who advertises on the site, End trichotillomania and stop hair pulling - 123 Trichotillomania Free. I have found this the most helpful resource of all. Reading the author's website, I have found it corny at some points, but it completely understands my problem. The cost of the book is $39.99, but so far its help has been almost priceless. I am about 1/3 of my way through, and it has really helped me to understand that I do not have a "disorder," but rather an "addiction" that I can change with time and overcoming my shame.

I hope this helps and feel free to ask any other questions that you have!
