I wanted to know if there are any risks associated a supplement called Serenity (a type of anti depressant?), it contains "litium" which sounds very dangerous to me, it does not require a prescription, nor has it been FDA tested. Thank you.

You have answered your own question here - it has not been FDA tested or approved. Not that I think the FDA is the be-all and end-all of product quality but their endorsement does give some peace of mind.

"Serenity" is made from these two main ingredients:
Lithium in its elemental mineral form only.
Orotate -- the organic mineral carrier, which does just that: carries the Natural Lithium to exactly where it needs to be delivered; beyond the brain blood barrier -- which is where imbalances in people occur.

I can understand your concern about the Lithium. If in doubt, ask your doctor. Between you and him/her, you can make the best decision for your own health.

Now there is also a product called, "Serenity Now" made by a different company with different ingredients. Serenity Now - supplement to reduce nervousness, frustration, and mental exhaustion

Lithium can be a very dangerous substance to take if one does not understand it's chemical makeup.

Whenever one takes a medication that is lithium or contains lithium one must have their blood monitored for a length of time. This is because lithium, in its true form, is a salt. So in taking lithuim you must monitor salt and water intake and output until a therapeutic level is reached.

I do not recommend this "medication" for depression as it is not yet FDA approved and short and long term side effects have not yet been discovered.

As Shy mentioned it is always best to discuss medications with your doctor.
