Yes. Men have the same mood swings as women. We just don't bleed. Most common is the PMS response. Men have a sudden and usually noticeable desire to become violent. It happens every couple of months. Most guys notice it, but don't think about it. It is common sense that we would also have a type of menapause. Similar to a mid life crisis? Symptoms and understanding them are really a case by case thing. I am a violent person during my "cycle" if you want to call it that, but when my wife was pregnant, I became very emotional. My wife even noticed the abnormality of it. If it is just a sense of nastalgia or sensitivity, enjoy it. Most guys are not able to feel this as sesictly. If it is overwhelming saddness, look for medical help. Not being a butt.

There is a condition termed "andropause" that is often compared to female menopause. The involved male hormone is testosterone (T). T peaks in males at between 15-18 and gradually declines thereafter. Between the age of 40-50 there is a significant drop in T and men can suffer from emotional symptoms like mood swings, irritability, depression, and listlessness.

Andropause as defined, is basically a temporary hormone disbalance. Hormones do not work independently and when one changes it changes others until your body brings them back into balance. Andropause could result in unexpected, unusual or seeming inappropriate emotional and even physical symptoms.

There is widespread disagreement within medicine whether these male and female conditions are even comparable. However the information provided above is known to exist, regardless of how it may be labeled, in about 50% of men.

On the other hand many doctors feel that what is called andropause is actually caused by some other underlying medical disorder.

I think this answers your second question but I'm not at all sure it explains your first. That is, "why". Your current state of emotionality may or may not be a result of andropause, but it is possible.

You didn't mention how long this has been occurring. It would also be helpful to know of any conditions you are being treated for, and/or any other bothersome symptoms that occurred about the same time ex: sleeplessness, irritability, lack of sex drive, etc. Also, can you think of anything that may be causing or contributing to your complaint?

If you can provide any further information I'll be happy to tie it altogether and hopefully provide some resources to offer further clarification. In the meantime you might just GOOGLE "andropause" Hope this helps.
