Do I need a happy pill?
First off let me state this very clear...
I love my wife and I love my kids, they are my life.

Now to get to the point. In the last couple of years I noticed that my mood sucks.
It seems that I'm always in a bad mood for one reason or another, and when I am in a good mood in an instant I can become an angry . [ for petty reasons]

My wife says I need "the happy pill"

Anyway while at home I feel trapped and I get antsie and want to leave the house, no special place in general. Some days I'm fine and then other days I feel like the world is about to end.

Kids will be kids and my wife and I have our stress moments... bills, etc.. etc..
No more and no less than any other married couple. I though it was arising from my family but I have found that anyone and anything sets me off.

    Now for my past...
I only hung out w/ 2 friends and I never made the habit to roam or wonder nor did I party until I was older, like 20yrs of age older. I was always happy unless trouble came about and I never had mood swings like I'm having now.

So, what's your thought on this?

    Krazy,

What is your job like? How many kids? How long have you been married?

Can you describe when and why these "mood swings" occur?

I'm a die cutter... "we make boxes"
It's a cool job and the let me play with big knives to cut with.
Even at work I have mood swings... I can be quality fanatic then in
Quick turn I couldn't care less and get pissy, not directed at anyone just pissy.

I have 3 kids and married now for 6yrs. [ I married my college love]

I'm always irritable so it doesn't take much of anything. My mood swings are never directed at anyone
Nor do the occur from one single person/person's.

Are you depressed or just get angry easily?

Have you talked to your doctor about this?

There are many pills out there, but not everything requires a pill.

Have you considered counselling? I know, everyone says counselling, but it works, that's why. ;)

I believe in counseling, but I think that word gets thrown around WAY too much.

I agree J, but I believe in it too.

I'm on anti depressants after trying all other avenues and having them fail. I do think that counselling, when depressed or having mood swings, is important, after seeing your doctor to rule out a chemical imbalance or clinical depression . That's just an opinion though. ;)

Counselling helped me a lot, but without my meds I'm not a pleasant person to be around so I believe in them too.

I think the trick is finding what works for you, and sometimes that can take a long time.

Been through counseling... did nothing. Waste of money and waste of time. There is no way to find out if there is a chemical imbalance. No blood tests for that.

I didn't realize that, I thought there was a way to test. I guess I got lucky, the first pill I tried worked. I've been on them since 2001.

But that's for depression. Are anger issues, or mood swings with anger the same as depression? Would the same pills work?

Counselling definitely isn't for everyone, also I went through a few until I found one that worked for me. I haven't been in years but the tools she gave me, well, I still use them today and I have to say that they work.

I wish there was a quick fix Krazi.

I'll leave you in J9's hands, she's much more capable then I am. Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. No need to give me change. ;)

No, there is no way to tell. Finding the right pill is like finding a needle in a haystack. If a pill is even needed.

Sometimes one just needs to look inside himself/herself, to find out what the problem is and find a way to correct the issue.

Its been an on going issue for a few yrs now.
Not sure if it is depression but not ruling it out.
Counceling... not a chance, all I need is for some shrink to piss me off and I find myself in a lawsuit.
    Lmao!!

It may not be depression, but rather anxiety. This sounds more like anxiety than depression to me.

    Anxiety:

Everyone feels anxious from time to time — like when you're running late or interviewing for a job. People with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), however, feel some anxiety or worry almost constantly.

They often anticipate disaster or have exaggerated worries about a wide range of issues, from their health to their families to their daily responsibilities. Yet even when they recognize that the worrying is excessive, it is hard to control

    ------
Anxiety is based from worries in the inth degree right? If so then its not anxiety, I dont worry at all.
I'm always telling my wife to stop worring and to relax. But I do get the wicked "i gotta get outta here" and if I can't get out of the house then my attitude gets pissy. Hell maybe it is a form of anxiety I don't know.

That is one form of anxiety, yes. Anxiety isn't always about worry. I have anxiety and I don't every worry about anything.

Like you, I get snappy. Little things tend to set me off.

    Yeah... me to.
Then I get crazy and ramble on and on and on caused by a pet peeve like...

Wasted phone call : someone who call but has no topic for conversation so its like dead air most of the time.
[ um, thanks for calling, don't call me, I'll call you]

    Stupid questions :
I just woke up after working the night before and I'm asked "do you know where the remote/phone is?"
[how the hell do I know]

    The never ending reminder :
Always reminding me " its 2:45, dont forget to pick up your son"
[w-t-f , what is up with that]

I hear you all the way! I'm currently going through that. Been out of my celexa now for 2 weeks, and BOY is it hard to keep my mouth shut. LOL

"mom, can you get me a pepsi?" "Son, what are those two things on the ends of your legs? Walk over and get it yourself."

"You have cheerleading practice AGAIN!!!" When I knew full well she has it every day, 7 days a week, through the summer.

Gimme my happy pills and everyone else is happy in the house. LOL
