    Depressed please help
    Hi I'm kk17

I'm going through a rough time at the moment and have been for about 3 years. I'm going through depression and its getting worse. I'm going to the doctors next week but I'm worried she won't give me anything for it. I've been to 3 different councelors and they don't help, as I know what they are saying to me, nothings knew, but my depression just won't go away.

I cry a lot, get angry about things, I've thought about suicide a lot as I'm not happy at all. I feel guilty all the time about how my mums always there for me and I've never gone without anything, (she is a single mother and has worked her butt off for me and brother to have what we need). Anyway, I get nightmares, and I have a physical pain in my chest when I'm sad. I tend to let myself be on my own a lot, I love my friends at skool but I don't help myself, I kind of go my own way and keep myself to myself, then I get lonely. I don't have much confidence in myself, I know I should, I'm at a performing arts school. Anyway I hope I've given you enough information to hopefully help me and give me some advice. If you need to know more just ask.

    Thanks
Hope you can help :(

I love the fact that you are willing to be honest with yourself, admitting that you are not doing anything to change your situation. I know you understand that to change this state of mind, to move beoyond your current condition, you must participate in life and not merely spectate. What is it that you desire to do? Take steps toward that goal. There is an inner witness within you, that compels you... stop ignoring it. You will be significant, as well as, successful. Your energy is turned inward, too much for a body to hold. Know that there is more room for your energy to expand, outside of you. Besides your gift and talent will put a smile on another's face. So if not for you, life for someone else. Volunteer, you are needed, and as you step out, you will see just how valuable you are.

Let me start by saying that you are a very courageous person. It takes a lot to understand that you suffer from depression and are willing to get help.

I don't know where you are, but here in the U.S. counselors are not allowed to prescribe medications. Only a medical doctor can do that, some medical doctors are psychiatrists and they can prescribe.

If you explain to your doctor what you explained to us, then she probably will give you some meds. Just please be open and hoest with her about your feelings.

You are doing the right thing. Please keep it up.

medication can make a big difference in decreasing depression. sometime it takes a while to find the right medication, so dont give up. i encourage you to continue in counselling and give it a chance. Pick one of the three therapists you have been to or find a different one; but, put forth an honest effort to make it work. i know it is difficult to make an effort when you are depressed, but even a baby step will help. just make a commitment to yourself that you will take at least one baby step a day to improve yourself. you will be surprised how much that will help you and how far you can get from where you are now just by taking baby steps. if you stay where you are, you will be the same place next year and the year after. but with just one baby step you will find yourself in a totally different place. you can make this happen! dont give up on yourself!

I agree. Maybe you could try a different type of therapy, there are quite a few, to see which one suits you best as they all work in different ways depending on the person.

Please let us know how it goes. She should give you something if you are open and honest with her and let her know you feel you need something for your nerves.

Hi I kind of know your situation because my mom has dipression too and I sometimes would love to help her I've also felt completely upset about things and I would get gut pains but I found out what it was from and sometimes I didn't know at all but soon I kind of started to open up slowly and also talk to my mom (someone I trust) and one by one I talked about it sorted some of them out. But I hope this will help u.

My depression has been going on for many many years, due to a stiff neck I have had for 35 years non stop. The best thing I found to do is identify your depression TO YOURSELF. Then tell yourself it will not last forever no matter how much it feels it will. Then listen to yourself say that!! Hope it helps, seems too simple, but it works for me.CD
