    Avoidant Attachment Issue
I've always been of avoidant attachment style both as a child and now as an adult. I have a lot of diffuculty in forming intimate relationships and I still avoid my parents.
I am aware of it but I don't seem to be able to change this. This change would help me a lot in my everyday life.
How am I supposed to go about doing so?

Have you been to a therapist or counselor to work this out? That would be the next step. In counseling, you would be given goals and assignments to develop proper attachments and be taught how to follow through.

I've never considered this. What type of counselor does this type of thing? Is it really helpful?
Is it really likely to change? I have the will and the motivation but I don't see myself acting differently.
    Thank you Wondergirl.

Lauren, I won't spoil the surprises a good therapist has for you. You will have to do a little research to find the right one. Look for one that specializes in family systems therapy or self psychology (main themes are attachment and separation issues).

Yes, it's really helpful. Just talking about your attachment concerns will give you great relief. You will learn tips and techniques that will carry you through the rest of your life.
