I realize some of you might think I am terrible for even asking this
But I will ask anyway. Money is tight and podiatrist is expensive. My son has an ingrown toenail. I'm pretty sure it's infected. We have been soaking in epsom salt, letting it dry then applying neosporin with bandaid. He is not having pain. I worked at a podiatrist office so I know how expensive it is without insurance. His dad recently purchased insurance for my son but it does not go into affect until January 1. As far as I know my son is not allergic to any medication. I have a refill of Bactrim DS 800-160-one tablet two times a day for 10 days. My son is 13 will be 14 in Feb, 130 pounds mostly muscle (not sure if that matters). He is very active just finished football and is now playing basketball for the school and the city. Honestly, do you think it would be okay if I gave this to him and watched very closely for side affects?

Ok, while I will most likely be jumped on for asking it, can you not merely cut name and pull out the ingrown part. *** I will admit not good medcal advice, but I guess in the rual and uninsured areas of america I live in that is the norm of what most people I know do.

I don't know if it's because I'm tired right now but I think you asked me if I could just take care of the ingrown nail myself. I'm afraid to do that... and it's hard to see the corner of his toenail because of the infected part. I just need to get the infection down and watch his nail carefully making sure it grows out.

I ended up taking him to the podiatrist. He put him on antibiotic, soaks his feet in tablespoon of epsom salt morning and night, applying neosporin to the toe and toenail morning, afternoon, and night. Just wanted to update this in case other people view it.
