    Any operation has it's risks.

The answer can lie only with a medical person who knows 1. What type of tumor it is, and 2. Your own medical history.

Have you been told that you have a tumor on your pituitary gland and that it should be removed? If so, then shame on the doctor for not sharing the risks of the operation with you at the same time that they recommended the tumor's removal.

I'd get a 2nd opinion from someone who will be more informative.

Describes different approaches of the surgery and other treatments, focused mostly on the different physical approaches:

Also describes vaious pituitary issues, including tumors and surgical risks:

The short answer is your physician will have the info needed to discuss the operation, based on the location, size, etc, and the real risks associated with the surgery.

Looks like there is some research into minimally invasive endoscopic surgeries with promising results and quick recovery times.

You might also want to post this question at a site that is a discussion forum focuses solely on medical issues. Nothing against askme... its just this question is very specialized, so you might get better answers from medical oriented discussion forums like:

A cancer survivor board with searchable topics

Use their search topics for pituitary and you'll see questions in the neurosurgery forums

Hope this gets you started. You may even be able to look in your local phone book for support groups that can help give you more info.
