    Persistent heaviness in the head
Hi, I am having persistent heaviness in my head since 1 week. I feel pumping in my head and not able to sleep well. Ibuprofen is not working in my case. I feel force in my ears from inside. Sound irritates me.

I went to see doctor. He diagnosed it as Sinus and gave some spray medicine
    > Astelin
    > Veramyst

That is also not helping. Could any body help me please. I am really worried.

I am feared of some problem in my head.

    Please help

    Many Thanks
    - Gyan

Sounds like you have a sinus infection and may possibly need some antibiotics.

    Thanks J9,

Doctor gave me some antibiotic. But I do not see any difference. How long it would take for sinus to be cured. Could it be some serious problem. I am really scared..

You feel it in your head? This is normal when you have fluid build up.

Yeah, you got it correct. I feel it in my head. Does that confirms that it is sinus ?

It does not confirm that it is necessarily sinus, but most likely.

Sometimes you may need something called pseudoephedrine to help shrink mucous membranes lining the sinuses of the head and face. They come in tablet form and are more often combined with cold and flu tablets. But you must check with your doctor first in case you have high blood pressure. But don't worry too much about this, OK? And stick with the antibiotics until you have finished the pack and followed the doctor's instructions completely. You could also try breathing in steam through your nose. I know it's blocked but just putting your face over a bowl of steaming water with a towel over the back of your head to concentrate the steam for a few minutes at a time can open up the nasal passages. Plenty of rest and warm fluids and you will be better in no time.

Never ever attempt to diagnose yourself if you are not a doctor. This is a dangerous thing to do. If it is an infection it NEEDS antibiotics, and you cannot diagnose an infection, nor can you prescribe antibiotics.

J-9 is absolutely right. On what basis could anyone diagnose themselves without clinical training? The simplest explanations are the most likely ones. I am curious about the statement 'antibiotics have no effect'. Did you finish the pack and take them exactly as directed? I also saw a comment about increased heart rate which opens a new window into what's going on. I would screen for alcohol, illicit and licit drug and caffeine use, anxiety about this and/or other things going on in life right now. The simplest thing to do is focus on relieving the symptoms and let your doctor know what is going on.

    Hi gyanmusic,

As the previous posts have said it sounds like a sinus infection.

I'm wondering if your nasal passages are being aggravated by the nasal spray, although it will clear your nose, the side affects of using the spays can also cause the initial symptoms to re -occur, so it's a bit like rushian roulette... yes it does clear the nose but aggrivates the nasal passages in the process causing more inflammation every time you use it, which will also cause heaviness over the eyes and sometimes interfere with the balance in your ears.

My advice would be to continue with the antibiotics.. although I'm not sure that will cure it... but STOP the use of the nasal spray and try taking... Sudofed Decongestant... it's the SMALL RED tablets that you take every 4 to 6 hours, this will take down the swelling of the linings in the nasal passages, thus relieving the pressure. You can buy these at any chemists or sometimes a supermarket... be sure to get the RIGHT ONES there are several.

Give it a few days and see how you feel
