    K levels
My potassium level is 2.9. The level is supposed to be 3.6-5. I didn't think 2.9 is that low but the doctor seem somewhat alarmed and gave me some horse pills (huge) to take. I didn't start the pills because I do eat grape fruits, bananas and I take a medication that that has a side effect that causes my K level to rise. If I was not eating foods containing K and my meds weren't the way it is what would the levels be?

Potassium is a very serious electrolyte. It is dangerous to be out of imbalance. 3.5 - 5.0 is the normal range anything above or below that can be critically dangerous and can cause dangerous heart arrythmias. The doctor has every right to be concerned, and so should you.

You state you eat foods high in K+, but apparently they are not high enough to raise your levels. It is important to take this supplement.

BTW, what is the particular medication you take that causes the K+ levels to rise? Are you taking them?
