    Constant fatigue and thirst
Hi. I have had this problem for 2 - 3 years now and it has slowly gotten worse.

I am 25 years old and everyday I feel fatigued and excessively thirsty. I mean I drink a lot of water compared to everyone else at work and therefore I urinate a lot more. I always carry a bottle of water on me also but for some reason I am always thirsty, even during the winter (I live in the UK - a relatively cold country). I am a final year architecture student and the course is tough and demanding, especially this year. This has caused me to focus this year on my studies and has meant I have had slightly less time for leisure and relaxation. It has got to the point where every night I work through until 2am (even weekends) and therefore I cannot wake up. I get up at 10am everyday which is bad I know but because I work so late I just can't get out of bed and I just run out of time during the day. So that could be the reason for my fatigue. However, I am concerned about the thirst as I really hope that I am not diabetic. I am relatively healthy despite my student lifestyle. I very rarely drink (one glass of wind a week sometimes less) because all I care about right now is studying. I have never smoked in my life and I eat relatively healthily. My height is 173cm and I weigh 120lbs so I am not overweight by any means. I have always had a high metabolism though. There is little history of diabetes in my family (my mums grandfather was diabetic [my great grandfather] and my uncle is diabetic although he has only recently been diagnosed [he is in his 50s]). Could this have an effect on me? My parents are not diabetic and neither are my siblings or grandparents.

So what else could these issues be?

Oh dear I just realised that should say "one glass of WINE a week sometimes less" instead of WIND!! Lol How embarrassing!

These are classic symptoms of diabetes. You should be checked by a doctor. Make an appointment soon!

Type 2 diabetes is becoming very common.

I assume you have been to wikipedia already:

I agree with Asking. Sounds like typical Diabetes mellitus. Time to make an appointment with your doc.

What you are describing is called polydipsy (excessive thirst) and the urination is called polyuria. Both of these are classic symptoms of DM.

Thank you both for your replies. I am going to make a doctors appointment this week. I joined my previous doctors only a year ago though and upon joining I submitted a urine sample. Surely if there was a problem with glucose levels in my urine they would have informed me? Anyway I will go and get checked. It just seems strange to me because I always thought I was healthy.

    Thanks again for the replies.

That was a year ago. Many things can happen to your body during a year. Good to hear you are going to make a doctors appt.

Diabetes sounds the most likely, but a high calcium and thyroid disease may need to be looked into if you are not diagnosed with diabetes

I was going to suggest a thyroid condition, I have a low thyroid, before I was diagnosed and put on medication I had the same symptoms as you.

But that's just a guess, only a doctor can tell you for sure.

    Good luck.

Thanks once again for the replies. They are very useful. I presume the test will involve a blood test and then they will send the results away. Anyway, hopefully everything will be OK.
