    does the equation model direct variation y = 7x - 2
    it is asking me to tell whether y = 7x - 2 is a model for a direct variation, inverse variation or neither?

    "Direct" variation, and "inverse" variation models both have particular forms, which you'll find in your book. Now which model (if either) does your linear equation match exactly?
