    You are also not clear, is that supposed to be y = 2x + 1 or y = x^2 + 1.

    x^2 is "x squared" or "x to the second power".

    A hint is to look at the graph of y = x^2. Or if you mean y = 2x+1 then it is already in the form of y = mx+b
