A bicyclist traveling at 18 mph over takes an in-line skater who is traveling at 10 mph. From the stating point does the bicyclist overtake the in-line skater?:confused:




A stamp collection consists of $.3, $.8, and $.13 stamps. The numberof $.8 stamps is three less than twice the number of $.3 stamps. The number of $.13 stamps is twice the number of $.8 stamps. The total value of all the stamps is $2.53. Find the number of the $.3 stamps in the collection.

2) Let 8 cents stamps be y
3) Let 13 cents stamps be z

So:- 3x + 8y + 13z = 253 cents

1) 3x + 8y + 13z = 253
2) 3x + 8y + 26y = 253
3) 3x + 34y = 253

4) y + 3 = 2x
5) y = 2x - 3

6) 34y = 68x - 102

7) 3x + 34y = 253

8) 3x +68x -102 = 253
9) 71x = 253 +102
10) 71x = 355
11) x = 5

The answer is 5 (3 cents stamps) in the collection.

I don't understand the question well here... The facts are such that the bicyclist have already overtaken the skater... I guess that the answer to the question is 'yes'.
