    Inter-religious marriage
    Hi,

I am basically a Hindu. I have converted into a Christian for my marriage. Yes, my wife is catholic.

We have married before 3 years. We have a kid. He is one and a half years old.

My question is : Is there any problem creep later by our inter-religion marriage? But we married under Special Marriage Act of India.

Note : I and my spouse like to be a Hindu only..

The only issue is if as the child practices and chooses one faith over the other, is the one partner feeling hurt.

If one or neither partner is real strong in their faith normally there is little issue, but if both are strong in their beliefs it can be hard

My husband is Nepali and Hindu, he doesn't practice everything, but he does go to temple every now and then and respects the obsevensces. I am American and christian. We came to the undertanding that our children will know both cultures and undertanding's of both worlds, and when it time comes that they are old enough to decide what they want to do they can choose whatever they feel is right. We will show them both ways. It's part of our culture and herritage.

Yes - We are worrying about our kid. What religion we have put in his school admission form. (this is only a sample, may be in all other future Govt./official correspondence)?

    Which religion my kid belongs.

But this is the issue, as noted on the post where each shows the other their religion and lets them practice it, A person who is very strong in their religious beleifs will believe the other faith is wrong, A Christian who believes in salvation only though Christ would not want their child doomed to hell so to speak by accepting a false religion, so a christian who is strong in their faith will not mind their child learning other faiths, but not accepting them. We teach for example our children about all faiths but from a historical view point not as a choice.

I would say if you married a Catholic, did you not agree or sign with the preist when you were married that you promised to raise the children catholic ?

Fr_Chuck I agree with what you are saying. My mother and I had that discussion exactly, but also you may lead someone towards the right way, but at the same time it's the persons decsion at the end how they believe and live. We can not make that decsion for them.
As far as putting what religion on applications for the child couldn't you mention that they are interfaith? Or maybe non-denominational? Or other? It doesn't have to be either or does it?
