    The Catholic Religion
    Hi -

I have a question for anyone who knows about the catholic religion... I am getting married. My fiance's family is very catholic. My fiancé goes to church 2 times a year with his family, but isn't really involved other than that. I'm not religious and definitely not Catholic.

I have agreed that we can have our children baptised in the catholic church - mostly to make my fiance's family happy - but that is it.

Here is my question... my fiance's dad just called and said that unless we get married by at least a deacon or a priest (as opposed to a Christian pastor as we had planned), we cannot get our children (who we don't even have yet) baptised in the Catholic church and my fiancé can no longer take communion.

Is this true? This doesn't seem right to me and I'm wondering if he is just using this as a way to manipulate my fiancé.

    Thanks!!

He can still take communion even if you are not catholic and not married by a catholic priest... My priest always said "once Catholic, Always Catholic" if he is baptised, and had his first eucherist, then he can take communion. And I was able to baptise my son without being married in the catholic church...

I am a catholic.. but not a practising one.
I am married, my husband carrys no religion watsoever!
We live in a catholic country also.

We are married but by law only not through the catholic church.
However, if I remember correctly my priest told me that of course when we have kids they can be baptised, even as we didn't get married in a church and besides my husband isn't catholic.

I guess I will go against the agreement here,

Under Vactian II, to be married outside the church and it be accepted the Bishop has to give his permission prior to the wedding. If they do not, it is not accepted, the church knows they are legally married, but not blessed by the church.

They do want them to marry in the church, but no longer require the non catholic to sign in writing to raise the children catholic, but do ask the catholic member to promise to raise the children catholic, the non catholic no longer has to make that promise.

If they marry outside the church without permission of the Bishop, until the catholic partner confesses and has the wedding blessed by the church, they are not to take communion.

Some bishops and priests will also not baptise a child living in such a household.

I would strongly suggest you talk to your local diocese Bishop to know exactly what their position on this is.
