Summer vacation, what did you all do?
Remember back in elementary school, the first week we had to write a report on what we did on summer vacation?

Well, the family and I didn’t go any where exiting this year. Just went on some weekend get-a-ways. This one in particular is something that I will always remember.

My wife and I took the kids camping for the weekend. We have two daughters, five and three. After a great day of taking a short hike, a little swim, and just enjoying being a way from it all, I got the campfire going. We had a nice supper cooked over an open flame. After having our fill of s’mores and Jiffy Pop, our three year old fell asleep. So, my wife took her into the tent to lay her down, where she decided to lay down too and fell asleep as well. My five year old and I just sat by the fire and talked. Then, as it got darker, the fire flies came out. My daughter had never seen such a site. She was truly amazed. “How can it do that.” She said. So I showed her how to gently catch fire flies in her hand so she could see them better. Then, after a while we sat back down in our chairs, but she wanted to sit on my lap. So, we sat and chatted for a little bit, but she was quite tired from a full day, and it was well past her bed time. She put her head back and looked up and the night sky. We were lucky, for it was a clear night. Then she said in amazement, “Wow! Look at that Dad! I have never seen so many stars.” We talked a little more a bought life until she fell asleep. I think my daughter and I bonded more in those few hours than in the five years sense she was born.

So, that was the highlight of my summer.

I quit my job and moved back in with my family in order to finally, FINALLY pursue my dream of starting my own business. I am pleased to say that everything is nearly finished for it! Its been an immense amount of work but I feel joy in knowing how great its going to be to not have to work for anyone else one of these days!

Sounds like you had an awsome summer. Those precious few moments amount to an amazing connection. I am so happy for you.

For me, never had any summer vacation. Although In a bit my family and I are going away for a vacation close to the ocean, clear bright skies and clean fresh air and red soil. Well have a good night. It will be the first trip we take with our new addition, well our boy is turning 1. Not a baby anymore ); growing so fast.

I changed how I act a lot and how I look at things over the summer... In a good way. Im not AS immature as I was and I'm smarter... okay just a little. Lol . Also, I had to take drivers ed AND go to summer school because I didn't pass the GQE.

Hah. I had a similar summer.

I went to a tech school and got my first few computer certifications. My roommate moved out and screwed me over, because he got fired from the job that I got him and couldn't afford to pay me any rent (he owed me five months rent at one point... ), and this was after I had to kick my previous roomamte out because he randomly decided to start smoking pot, and then selling pot. I seem to have good taste in roomies...

So, a few weeks ago, I moved back to my parents house... I'm planning on staying about a year, and then hopefully moving out west.

Other than school, I quit the job I had and got a new one. I used to install cable, now I'm a network admin/helpdesk technician. It's pretty awesome.

I didn't really do any soul searching, but I had a lot of great times. My best friends and I went to the Dominican Republic and had a blast there. Soon after we all went down to L.A. for a concert. Went to a few random parties, held a few parties at my house, but mostly was just a summer of parties...

Sounds like you had a magical time Wangdoodle! Very descriptive the way you wrote it too, I almost feel like I was there too!
My summer was boring in comparison. My partner only had one weeks holiday left (because he was changing jobs) and we had planned to redecorate one of our rooms in that week several months before. So it was boring for our son too. I hope we make up for it next year!
