    Compaq 610 Laptop what is this part?
    On the left side of my laptop there used to be a disk looking thing that would shoot out at you if u pressed it, what was it?

    It's probably the wireless network adapter. See the attached diagram.

    Google "Compaq ExpressCard" for more info.
