    Just goes to show you.
A farmer's wife called the local phone company to report her
telephone failed to ring when her friends called - and that on the few
occasions when it did ring, her dog always moaned right before the phone
rang. The telephone repairman proceeded to the scene, curious to see
this psychic dog or senile lady. He climbed a telephone pole, hooked in
his test set, and dialed the subscriber's house. The phone didn't ring
right away, but then the dog moaned and the telephone began to ring.
Climbing down from the pole, the telephone repairman found:
    1. The dog was tied to the telephone system's ground wire with a steel chain and collar.
    2. The wire connection to the ground rod was loose.
    3. The dog was receiving 90 volts of signaling current when the number was called.
    4. After a couple of jolts, the dog would start moaning and then urinate.
    5. The wet ground would complete the circuit, thus causing the phone to ring.
And this demonstrates that some problems CAN be fixed by pissing and moaning.

You sounded like you needed a good laugh!

When I received it late yesterday, I thought it was very appropriate to what a number of us have been going through on the boards.

    LOL Good one Ruby!

At your request I share this here:

Here is my real-life equivilency to that. I live in the boonies, have only crappy dial up available. For two years I piss and moan to Ma Bell about how when it rains hard we get booted offline over and over and over. Drives me bananas!! They check the line, I check the phones, on and on getting worse and worse until one day I said "Send someone out here NOW!"... And they did!

Turns out a box on the pole had a loose cover that ants were using to hide in when they got flooded out in the yard and were getting zapped and dead little bodies piled up -- a commonly occurring phenomena in Florida, said the nice man who claimed that the small current attracts them. He installed a specifically designed ant-proof cover, so he said.

Have not been booted since. I am NOT making this up!
