Should I pierce my navel myself because of a broken promise?? HELP!!

    Asked Aug 20, 2005, 07:26 PM — 6 Answers
I've been begging my mom for a belly button piercing since I was 4 1/2 years old. My mom FINALLY said yes after 8 1/2 years (I'm now 13). My mom did something that she shouldn't have and it hurt my mentally VERY bad. She just said, "Kirsten, I'll make it up to you, and take you to get your belly button pierced a few days before school".

Well, I've been doing my research, and then my parents stared talking about getting a divorce. She said that in order for me to get my belly button peirced, I have to talk my dad into it, and I KNEW that the answer would be no, and that he might even hit... or blow up because I asked him. Sure enough, he did.

Now he's blowing it out of proportion, and saying that he's the one who makes ALL of the final desiscions, when that's not true AT ALL!! He won't let my mother make any choice financially. He even started saying that he'll sew the place that puts the jewelry in my body. I've even gotten to the piont where I said that I'll pay for it myself.

I went to the mall with some friends the other day, and I found this piercing kit. I bought it. I have EVERYTHING that I need, but I'm not sure if I should wait for thins to blow over, or if I should just do it myself, considering I've pierced other people, and my cartiledge, 4 times. What should I do. My mom broke a promise to me that she even signed a paper for. It hurts REALLY bad because It's something that I've been wanting for 8 1/2 years!! What should I do?!

    PLEASE HELP ME!!

    Dear TG,

It sounds as if your parents have lots to worry about (other than your piercing). I can see that you have wanted this for a long time but try to be patient with them and yourself. Do you like the way the piercing looks or do you want to look like the celebrities. Why don't you wait until the weather warms up again (unless you are in a hot climate) and take a break from thinking about the piercing. You have your whole life ahead of you and it won't change your world if you don't get pierced today. I would go to a professional if I were you and return the kit. Put that money in your "Piercing fund".

Doctors say that bellybutton piercing is the most likely of the body piercings to become infected. Please consider a cuff rather than the real thing. They can be just a sexy looking as the real thing, if that is what you are seeking. Thank the Good Lord, my girls had no desire for this fad. -Becky

Have you ever heard the cliché... he/she who chooses to defend himself/herslef in court has a fool for a lawyer??

Same applies to any bodily mutilation... if self inflicted be prepared for unexpected repercussions... usualy not good ones.

I got my piercing when I was a freshman in high school which made me fourteen. My dad was there when I got it and it was my mom who kind of freaked out bu she couldn't say much because it was already done. You should listen to your dad because its not worth being yelled when you get it, or if you do then just hide it and don't flaunt your stomach off when he"s around. And also consider, if he finds out then he mite make you take it out and then you piercing yourself and possibly getting an infection was a waste.

First of all don't be an idiot do not pierce it yourself girl I'm warning you! Piercing go through a lot of training so don't do it you could paralize your lower body and possibly get a lbood infection
