    Rights sale cost basis
I sold 339 American Depositary Shares of Alcatel-Lucent and received an additional payment for the sale of 339 rights. I received $ 56 for the sale of the rights.

Although I was not aware that rights were attached to the original shares it seems that the basis of the rights is the amount received at the time of the sale. Is this correct? And if so, is my new basis for the original ADS reduced by $56?

I had the same question about how to calculate the sale of rights for Alcatel-Lucent.

I did find this web site: http://www.costbasis.com/stkchanges/stockrights.html. It has a link to a stock rights calculator (on the same site), and that calculator even has Alcatel-Lucent as one of the options. I put in my information and got an answer -- and I'm going with it!

    Hope this helps.
