How do I report loss from stock merger?
I owned 1800 shares of ECU silver which was ecu.ca.It went through a merger on 9/13/2011 with Golden Minerals(AUMN).I had 1800 shares of ECU.ca with cost basis of 2734.08 and now own 90 shares of AUMN.I haven't sold any of the stock but the way I understand it this is a taxable event in which I will have a loss. The price of ECU.ca on the day the shares were tendered was .71cents per share.I don't know what to report on taxes or how. Thanks!
