What version of windows on your laptop? I would assume windows 7 as new.

Try control panel and then network and sharing and click on left, Setup a new network or connection and see if your wireless can be seen and click connect

If that one does not work, choos the next option below that,Connect to a network

Hope that helps or gets you in right place

I tried that but it won't let me et up a new network and my wireless is not listed. When I clicked Wireless Configuration a box popped up saying Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utilty, the wireless network adapter could not be accessed. This application may have diminished functionality as a result. I am LOST!

    Not sure myself

As new, you should also try and contact Dell through online chat support
    Dell - Hardware Chat

They should be able to get you in right direction whether a Dell issue or possibly the router or maybe both but that will help in narrowing it down.

I know it's gets frustrating but it will work out.

There is a little button that turns your wireless on and off, make sure it's activated. If you provide the model number I can tell you where it is.
