Hi, I am with bt broadband internet, with a router in my house connected to 3 laptops with a wire connection. My internet was set up in July and has been working fine up until yesterday when it suddenly stopped. None of us can get online. It is saying limited or no internet activity, and apparently the problem is that I need to renew my IP address. According to BT helpline, who have been no help at all, I should be given an IP address automatically and shouldn't need to renew it. I don't understand how my internet was working perfectly fine one moment and now its not. Please can someone help as I am at a v important stage at uni and need to get online all the time.

Renewing an IP isn't very difficult at all.

Go to the Start menu, and then Run.
In the Run window, type cmd
Hit enter. This should open a black window.
Type ipconfig/release
After all the jibberish comes up, type ipconfig/renew
This SHOULD renew your IP. Usually it does, but on occasion your computer will find another reason to not work.

First you need to find out WHERE the problem is. So try connecting one of your PCs directly to the broadband modem. If you can get to the Internet, then the problem is not your connection. Its more likely in the router. So the next step is to reset the router. Some routers have a reset button, others require powering it off and on.
