Well, as far as I know, you can't get rid of IE without getting rid of windows. Microsoft has done some "OS integration enhancements" that make IE a more, well, integrated part of windows. Therefore, there are greater security problems, no real usability enhancements, and it's also "stuck" there.

Just don't use IE for browsing the web, and you will be saved from the worst... :)

When you start up mozilla, it should ask if you want to make it your default browser. This will associate all html documents with it...

By the way, you might want to look at:
    http://texturizer.net/firefox/adblock.html
Which explains how you can get rid of 99% of banner and flash ads.

Couldn't disagree more... have had Mozilla for a few weeks now its no more quick than IE,and I've never had any security problems with IE and Mozilla takes ages to download images got so fed up with it I will delete it soon and go back to the old faithful as I have never found anything to beat it yet. Tried all the new browsers and none does for me.

You're free to do whatever you want, but in my opinion, a browser that blocks 95% of banner ads is better than anything that has ever come out of Redmond. :)

    IE vs Mozilla
    Hi,
No, you can't get rid of IE; as another has said.
Just don't use it, if you don't want to.

However, You will find that IE can be as secure as any other browser; and is much faster on the web than most.

Also, you need AdAware_SE and SpyBot; free programs to get rid of spyware/advertising programs that will get into your computer. Neither a good Antivirus program nor Mozille nor IE can stop some of it; such as popups, hijacked home pages, etc.

    Best wishes,

You can get rid of IE
I got rid of IE :p here is the link for the software... http://www.litepc.com/ieradicator.html
Please read the text before using it! It is free and it works great! ;)

Oh and about IE being secure< that is sooooooo wrong! And why have a browser that you have to download all kinds of other programs just to make it halfway useable  I use mozilla Firefox 1.0 and it is actually faster than IE , probably because I don't have problems with adware and spyware anymore.

    Getting rid of Internet Explorer?
I might be a little late to this, but if you remove I.E. from your PC,as has been suggested on various web sites, you won't be able to use Windows Update to download service packs and patches surelly?
According to a 'way-over-my-head-tech-reply',deleating I.E would break apps.that rely on the IEHTML.DLL file for rendering.Help files for I.E would be non existent.
Full marks for anyone who succeeds fully, but don't break a window, get Firefox. As already has been said, use that as your default browser. :D
    Cheers,

    Eradicator
    Hi,
Please be VERY CAREFUL if you try the Eradicator stuff at any website; to rid the computer of Internet Explorer.
It can cause your computer not to re-boot; not always, but it can.

Just make your other browser the default, as another volunteer said, and don't worry about IE.
IE is so very tightly entwined with any Windows, it's almost impossible to get rid of, without hurting other applications.
    IE works fine for me.

I'm going to second this. Windows Update web site only works with IE. These days the patches and fixes are a must. I use Firefox and have it set as my default browser. IE is still there and I only use it for updates to Windows.
If you are not using IE it's not a security risk.

Firefox is MUCH faster than IE, it's not even close. To say that Firefox is slower is a bare faced LIE! To anyone reading this, go and see for yourself. I've had Firefox for a long time and it's NEVER been slower than IE to this day.
