How can I use an animated gif as photo on this site?
I see some users have animated photos, but the couple I've tried don't animate... like my current one... he's supposed to be doing some moves... like you see here.

Is there a trick I'm missing?

    Thanks!

Hey, what's up with that? It animates if I attach it, but no animation as my user picture.

It looks like when you are uploading the avatar vBulletin is stripping out all the animation.

This link: https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/avatars/rickj.gif doesn't show a moving image either.

Try linking to the picture on another site instead of uploading it.

The image that you are trying to use is too large.
The maximum size of your custom image is 80 by 80 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller).
    Your's is 99x68 and 74Kb. ;)

When I've used animated gifs in the past I always look for ones the correct size, as I found resizing to be a very hit and miss affair.

Thanks guys. Sounds like LT and Curly's ideas are related... but seems odd, as in the past if I've tried to upload an image that is too big, I get an error message.

I see that briggsdude's animated one is within the bounds... so I'll see if I can find a neat one that's an OK size and try again.

This is strange. I get an error message "You cannot upload animated images" whether I try to upload from my machine or link to it... even when it's within the size limits.

    Here's an example: 70x70 4.1kb: http://www.jackson8.com/images/animated/rj.gif

So I wonder how briggsdude, G$-450 etc. managed it?

I tried to upload an animated gif as an avatar and got the same message as you rick. Does anyone currently have one up and running as an avatar?

LOL could be a case of Admin not allowing animated Avatars any more, after all those examples have all been up for ages ;)

Yup, I agree. Those examples probably had the gifs before a rule was put in place to 'outlaw' them.

Edit: OK now I just look stupid. :D
How did you guys do that?

    See Curly's post #12 and my #13.

    Such fun!

(Just upload an image to this thread, then copy the url to it... but remove the part after "gif"... and enter it in the url box of your picture upload options)
