Easy Instructions" Needed RE:What to do with favorites?
HELP PLEASE! I will be purchasing a MAC MINI in the next few days. I would appreciate receiving VERY EASY INSTRUCTIONS, and any opinions, ideas, suggestions, advice, etc. on what to do with the following situation? I have A lot of "FAVOURITES" - folders and pages SAVED and they are very important to me. I am self taught, and basically only know how to surf on the internet, do emails, and basic copy and paste. CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME HOW I CAN KEEP MY FAVOURITES  AS RIGHT NOW THEY ARE ON A REGULAR COMPUTER (P.C.). I am very anxious about this as I MUST find a way to keep them. HELP PLEASE!! THANKS!

Are you on a MAC now? You should be able to export your favorites to a file you can transfer to the new PC. You can defintiely do this with Windows.

THANK YOU NEED KARMA! But even with these instructions which sound easy to you I need more explanation.
    l. HOW DO I EXPORT MY FAVOURITES TO A FILE... I NEED MORE EXPLICIT EXPLANATIONS, I.E. CLICK ON THIS, CLICK ON THAT, ETC...
    2. IF I HAVE MORE THAN 1 email account, can I email the file to myself, and if yes, then: HOW DO I EMAIL A FILE?
    3. When I receive the mac mini, I hope that I will be able to do this!
    4. HOW DO I FORWARD A FILE BY EMAIL?

IS THIS ALL VERY DIFFICULT TO DO?

    Hurray!! Your Incredible Instructions Worked!!
NEED KARMA:THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! I was going to attempt to do this on my own, but then my teenage son came in to the room and said "Oh, I'm so bored!! " :(... so I asked him to read your instructions, and he clicked here, there, here and there, and BRAVO>>>>>> he just followed your instructions and transferred all of my favourites to my hotmail email account and I cannot believe this is too good to be true, I am so amazed (and so naïve about computers! ) and so grateful. THANK YOU AGAIN! :)

    Favorites
    Hi,
Another suggestion. If you have a burner drive, you can burn/copy your Favorites to a CD-R, then just simply copy them back to your Mac, placing them in the Favorites folder.

Gosh, and I was getting writer's cramps (just kidding). I forgot to answer your question 4. (if your son has not done this yet.. )
When you open an email and want to share it with yourself, or others, click on 'forward', then you'll get a new page with an empty TO: address bar, put the address(es) you want to forward the message to into that, and click on the 'forward' or 'send' icon. What type of email do you use, i.e. hotmail, Yahoo, etc? If I got a picture of what you are using, then it would be easier...

Have fun learning - you'll get there! P.S. If you meant sending a file from your computer to yourself for the mini, or others, then it is called 'attaching' a file - that's another step, but your email feature should also have a HELP section, so try that when you get time.

Hi Fredg!! So we meet again! (here now from Pointask) Well, I do not have a burner drive, but my son has told me that we will have one when we get the Mac Mini. I have two questions: 1. But I do remember that you once gave me some very valuable and easy instructions on how to use the floppy disk to save my Favourites... can you do that again please? As I will feel a lot better to know that I have also saved them on floppy disk too.
    2. If I have now have transferred all of my pages and my Favourites into my Hotmail email, is there a way to transfer them (easy instructions please, if possible.. ) to the Mac Mini I am getting? THANKS AGAIN,

    Hi Violet,
In IE go to File>Import and Export.
Press Next and select Export Favorites
Select the topmost folder (should be Favorites) and press Next
Choose Export to a File or Location and type A:\bookmark.htm in the box.
    Press Next, then Finish.

Once you get the MAC, you should be able to reverse the procedure by using Import Favorties. However I doubt if your MAC will have a floppy drive. So your best bet is to e-mail that file to yourself, download it onto the MAC then import it into your browser.

I did a step by step instruction bit on one of your other threads, hope you got it by now, if not let me know and I will post it here.
Since you emailed them to yourself - the steps are very easy to follow. Let us know if you found it.

    1. open up your explorer, then click on the star - favorites.
    2. next open up your email app and choose another one of your email addresses you have (in other words, compose, and send to yourself).
    3. Now in another window, open the sites you like one at a time, go to the address bar, right click to make the address highlight, then 'copy'. Now go back to your email message and 'paste' the link into your message or text box. Keep on doing these steps with each of your favorite sites, not forgetting to close them and not have too many windows open, just one explorer and your email composition. You can list all your favorite links in one message to yourself. It will look as if you are sending yourself a long meaningless letter, but they will have
https://www.someaddress.com and look just like this one or longer.
    https://www.anotheraddress.org
    https://www.againanaddress.net

** Don't click on this one as I just wrote it and it goes nowhere... but it's an example.
    4. Once you have your explorer and email program set up on the MiniMac you should be able to open your mail and click on each link one at a time and once opened, you can add them to your favorites all over again. That's a long and tedious way to do it, but at least you'll have them. Hope this helped, if not, get back with us and we'll help more. Good luck, as I told you I don't know anything about MACs, but it might be the same principle.
This is the step by step bit on how to send and then open up the hotmail and the messages, then click on the links you sent yourself - when open, then you can 'add to favorites' in step 4. all over again. It's really easy.
