Can't use search engines within websites
I am using IE8. My system is a HP laptop running winxp with 1gb ram and amd 2.20 processor. I am able to use the drop-down search engine list next to the address bar but after I get the website I want I am unable to search within the website itself. Any help will be appreciated in resolving this issue.

Any changes that either happened or that you perhaps made to your computer around the time that the problem started; particularly any Software that you installed or setup.

No, I did not make any changes recently that would cause this issue.

First thing to try is to Reset Defaults for IE

    1. Close any Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer windows that are currently open.

    2. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, and then clicking Internet Explorer.

    3. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.

    4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.

    5. Select the Delete personal settings check box if you would like to remove browsing history, search providers, Accelerators, home pages, and InPrivate Filtering data.

    6. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.

    7. When Internet Explorer finishes applying default settings, click Close, and then click OK.

    8. Close Internet Explorer.

Your changes will take effect the next time you open Internet Explorer.

    That should do it

Assuming you are using XP or Vista
If that does not work out, I would try to uninstall IE8 from add/remove programs (will bring back to previous version)

Now at this point, try to see if it will work with previous version

If everything is working all right, reinstall IE8

If not, will go from there

I tried both of your suggestions but they did not work. This must be a tough nut to crack because I've contacted many tech. people and still can't get it resolved.
When I use Netscape there is no problem at all so I think it's an IE problem. Anyway, if you have any more suggestions I would appreciate it.

Did it ever work in IE8?

Do you remember last time it worked?

If it was recently, you could try a system restore back to time when it was working (but install IE8 before doing the restore)

Steps below are the same for Vista
